Overview
The purpose of this page to keep track of ongoing port of Ingres to 64-bit Windows.
[edit]
Project Outline
The following is the outline of the projects that were identified as sub-projects required for Ingres 64-bit Windows port.
1. Build Ingres with the Microsoft 2008 compiler
- Convert visual tools project files
- Expect compiler related issues e.g. warnings generated by previous compiler version may now be errors, bugs in Ingres, compiler related bugs etc.
2. The next target is pure 64-bit build.
- Port all Visual Tools projects.
- Port all installer files
- Update build procedures/image rolling procedures.

Stretch Goal
1.. 64-bit reverse hybrid (64-bit Ingres, with support for existing 32-bit apps) build becomes a stretch goal. For the time being it isn't being implemented.
- We will leverage as much of the Jam work done on Linux as possible, but expect that Microsoft will have their own prescribed way of delivering 64-bit products. SQL Server may be a decent model to look at.
- As with 1.b we expect to find bugs that will need to be tackled
- Installer changes will be required to support the reverse hybrid build
- We would not be surprised to encounter problems with ODBC, .Net and the Visual Tools and may need assistance with these issues
[edit]
Project Exceptions
The following items are not within the scope of this project:
- Turning on Compiler Optimization (although this could be done in parallel once step 1, outlined above, is completed)
- Investigating the use of the Intel compiler
- Better exploitation of 64-bit environments
