Deprecate WinTCP Protocol Home
From Ingres Community Wiki
When the Windows TCP/IP driver was enhanced to support the Winsock2 API (in Ingres r3), and then enhanced later to add IPv6 support (in Ingres 2006 R2), it was implemented as a separate network protocol, identified as “tcp_ip”. The prior driver, identified as “wintcp”, remained the same. The “wintcp” driver continued to be shipped with the product, just in case there were problems with the newer driver. Additionally, for the most part, it has continued to be the default, resulting in it being the primary TCP/IP protocol still in use by customers today on Windows. The objective of this project is to get customers migrated to the newer driver, which has better performance, stability, and more features (such as IPv6 support); transparency to the customer and backoff capability to “wintcp” are desirable.
