VW installation problems

Hi, Hoping I can get a bit of help with our company's evaluation of VW. I've downloaded the eval version of VW and am trying to install it on our server.

1. during install, one of the tasks "Creating system database" fails. The install.log says this:

E_VW1099 Cannot start Vectorwise server.

2. Anyway, VW still seems to work (the service starts), but just wondering what the default username and password is to access the database. The user guide points me to the "connectivity guide", but the online docs "connectivity guide" on the actian website seems to be empty.

edit: the version of VW I'm using is "vectorwise-2.5.1-162-eval-win-x86_64.zip". Platform is 64 bit windows. Hardware is 12 cores, 64 GB, etc. Vectorwise.conf attached.

Hi Simon,

By default Vectorwise uses operating system authentication - so you should be at least able to connect as the user under which you installed it without a password. Try "createdb <dbname>" and then "sql <dbname>" from the Ingres Command Prompt (there's a link in the Windows Start menu) to see if that works.

The vectorwise.log shows that VW tried to get 16GB for the buffer cache and failed. Is it a dedicated machine or are you running other memory-hungry processes on it?
