Default Ingres 10 or Ingres 9.2?

I've got a prospective customer who is currently on Ingres 2.6 who is planning to upgrade to a version with standard enterprise support. On the basis that they will be upgrading just the DBMS initially I've suggested they may as well go straight to Ingres 10 as their applications won't touch any of the new (or even not-so-new) features.

I'm curious to know if anyone would dispute my position? Or to put it a little differently, does anyone know of any mature features that have been destabilised in Ingres 10? (I don't.)

Hi Roy, I'd agree with your suggestion of going to 10. Although if clients aren't similarly moving forward, check that they can recognise the longer identifiers that 10 introduced.

We had a problem with a change of behaviour on C datatypes. A query using LIKE used an index in 9.2 but doesn't in 10.0.

Also we have an outstanding problem with 10.0 whereby rows in a btree table can't be deleted until the table is modified. Fortunately this is only affecting a few tables at the moment.

Key compression on btree tables results in queries returning no rows.

Now THAT is interesting. Do you have a support issue open? Can you give an example?

I did raise an issue: Bug 126246.

In the tests that I ran I found that only rows in the last page can be selected by key value, the rest can't but usermod seemed to fix it. To be on the safe side I stopped using key compression.
