Default 32 bit ODBC driver Windows 64bit

Hello,

I recently installed Ingres 10 (ingres-10.1.0-113-gpl-win-x86_64-NoDoc) on a Windows server 2008 R2 standard. This is a 64 bit machine. (typical client install, I really only need the gcn and the gcc to connect to an Ingres database on another server (using odbc...))

The Ingres installer determines on what kind of OS it is running, sees it is 64 bit and installs the 64 bit ingres.
So far so good...Inres is running fine...I can connect to the other database

However...the application i use is 32 bit, and wants to use odbc. On a 64 bit windows machine, there are different ODBC connections for 64 and 32 bit.
For 64 bit ODBC connections i can choose Ingres as a driver.
for 32 bit ODBC connections I cannot use ingres as a driver.

Now...i really want to use the 32 bit ODBC driver, so i tried forcing the installer to 32 bit. However...no success yet.

as a temporary measure i installed an older (32 bit only) version of Ingres as a different installation on this machine (IJ) and now i have also got tho option to use 32 bit odbc.

But...what i really want is the newest version of ingres to supply the 32 bit odbc-driver.
so...force a 32 bit installation on this 64 bit windows-machine
or...install the 32 bit odbc driver and let it connect to the 64bit Ingres installation (is this even possible?)

Does anyone of you know how to do this ?

Hope to hear from you.

Best regards,
Gerben sannes

Hi,

You can download Ingres 10(32-bit) and this is also the latest version of Ingres that comes with 32-bit driver.
If you want to use 32-bit driver on your 64-bit Ingres installation, you might want to refer to the following link. It talks about Ingres 9.x, but you can use it on Ingres 10 as well.
32 bit Ingres driver in 64 bit Windows
Hope this helps,

Hi Gerben,

As far as I can see you've done the right thing. The 32bit Ingres installation has to be a different installation code, which you have done.

How about upgrading the 32bit installation to ingres-10.1.0-121-gpl-win-x86-NoDoc.zip?

I had this issue on my Win7 x64 laptop trying to ODBC from Office 10/Excel x32. The 64 bit ODBC Administrator kept telling me things were ok but the 32bit ODBC admin (it's on there also) showed no data sources, and Excel10 is looking there.
SOLVED: I downloaded DBA Tools from ESD - Electronic Software Distribution and presto, 32 bit started working. There are severl threads in these forums on the topic and one of them is where I got the idea. Wish I remmbered which one...

The 64 bit version of Ingres on Windows is completely a 64 bit version and does not contain any 32 bit libraries or applications. As you've discovered, if you need access to a 32 bit library/application such as ODBC, you need to install the 32 bit Windows Ingres version.
