Today Ingres announced a new project called Ingres VectorWise that is going to change the way you think about accessing data going forward. Ingres VectorWise is a collaboration between Ingres and VectorWise, a leading database research team from CWI Institute of Amsterdam along with ongoing contributions from Intel. This new project not only speeds up your database queries 10x but does it with a fraction of the hardware. No longer will you be sitting back wondering why your business application doesn’t run faster when you have just upgraded to the latest multi-core chipset. The story on this project just keeps getting better - it also includes an upgrade strategy.
The engineers at Ingres and VectorWise have been working together to ensure that the same functionality and SQL statements that Ingres users take advantage of today can be utilized in the future with Ingres VectorWise. This makes for an even more exciting project. Users can get involved with the Ingres community and be assured that work done today can be utilized in the future with Ingres VectorWise. The team here at Ingres understands the importance of backwards compatibility and the business critical needs of today’s enterprise. We are looking for ways to help people access their data faster and more cost effectively without having to rewrite all their current applications when they upgrade to Ingres VectorWise.
So take a look at Ingres VectorWise to learn more about this exciting project. Want to get more involved with Ingres? There are lots of ways to connect and contribute today.
Here are just a few ideas to get involved:

Get involved with beta testing of the Ingres product
Submit ideas for future development
Develop a piece of functionality you would like to see Ingres include in future updates (yes we take updates, you take the time to contribute, we take the time to integrate it)
Submit test cases to improve Ingres performance
Have an analytic application you want to get involved with Ingres VectorWise - drop us a line (products@ingres.com)
Port your application to Ingres
Contribution to the Ingres documentation projects
Speak a different language -help us translate Ingres
Attend local user group meetings, or start one in your own neighborhood
We have a strong community around Ingres that is excited and willing to help you get started - check out what’s happening on the community website and wiki. Got a good idea, need help moving it forward - Let us know. We welcome the participation and help along the way.
Always exciting around here..
